The Environment
Are you ready to go green?
As environmental awareness continues to grow, consumers will continue to demand more and more eco-friendly packaging. However, Millennium’s green products also make sound economic sense right now.
Are green products cost effective?
Yes. They are derived from corn, which is renewable every year. While transportation costs affect every aspect of manufacturing and transportation, these products are not directly dependent on fossil fuels. We have many containers in various shapes and sizes and can offer them at an attractive price point.

How are they made?
The starch in the corn kernels is isolated and converted into sugars, then fermented and separated into lactic acid which is used to create polylactide. This polylactide resin can then be formed and shaped similarly to conventional plastic resins.

What makes it green?
Source reduction is defined by the US EPA as a process by which packaging is made using fewer resources, creating less pollution and utilizing fewer potentially toxic ingredients. Besides deriving from natural resources instead of fossil fuels, our green products fit all disposal systems and are fully compostable. Further, they can be recycled back to a monomer and into polymers so that no sign of them remains. The process recycles the Earth's carbon, potentially reducing the CO2 in the atmosphere. Carbon dioxide is also removed from the atmosphere when growing the feed stock crop and is returned to the Earth when the products are degraded. |
